Val di Fassa admitted to "Club5" in Zurich
Two World Cup events confirmed for 2026
The Val di Fassa Organising Committee has joined "Club5", the association that brings together the classic Alpine Ski World Cup venues. The admission was made official in recent days in Zurich during the association's General Assembly, held as part of the FIS (International Ski Federation) Autumn Meeting, together with four other European resorts, namely Levi (Finland), Kronplatz and Bormio (Italy), and Courchevel (France).
The board of "Club5", elected in October 2024 and led by president Rainer Senoner (Val Gardena), together with vice-presidents Jan Überall (Kitzbühel), Thomas Rechberger (St. Moritz) and Ole Kristian Kirkerud (Kvitfjell), has set itself the goal of being recognised within the FIS – International Ski and Snowboard Federation – as the voice of all World Cup organisers. In Zurich, the committee took another important step towards this goal in the alpine sector. With the admission of Val di Fassa, Levi, Kronplatz, Bormio and Courchevel, the renowned association has grown to 26 members.
Val di Fassa was present in Zurich with a delegation composed of the vice-president of Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi, Gianni Rasom, the general manager, Cristoforo Debertol, the head of the ski area, Alessia Debertol, the race director, Mattia Giongo, and the Ski Cross track director, Dario Dellantonio, a working group that participated in both the technical meetings reserved for the Alpine Ski World Cup competitions and for Ski Cross, given that in 2026 there will be two events on the top circuit calendar on the slopes of the Ladin valley in Trentino. On Saturday 7 March and Sunday 8 March, the La VolatA slope in the San Pellegrino Ski Area will host a women's downhill and super-G, preceded by three days of trials from 4 to 6 March, while in Park Monzoni, also in Passo San Pellegrino, the Ski Cross World Cup will be held for the second consecutive year on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 January, preceded by qualifying rounds on Wednesday and Thursday. It will be the last competition before the Italian Olympic Games.
"Among the topics discussed in depth at the meetings in Zurich," points out the vice-president of Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi, Gianni Rasom, "was the 10% increase in the competition prize money imposed by FIS, which will therefore be brought to a total of 158,400 Swiss francs for both the men's and women's competitions. For this season, the Federation has undertaken to cover the cost of the increase, but from next season onwards, it will be borne by the Organising Committees. In addition, FIS has committed itself, starting from the next council meeting, to introducing a long-term calendar that will guarantee a certain degree of certainty in planning and where Val di Fassa could be included on an alternating basis with other locations. Another significant aspect highlighted by FIS is the joint development of a unified accreditation system. Our Organising Committee then presented the work to expand the car park and finish area of the La VolatA slope, which began in September, as requested by FIS to improve logistics and services. In addition, our race director Mattia Giongo and his staff are finalising a comprehensive emergency plan, which includes intervention procedures both on the slope and in terms of traffic management based on weather conditions. As for Ski Cross, Park Monzoni is ready to host a two-day event on the top circuit for the second time, and in Zurich, topics related to marketing were discussed in depth, with a heated debate among the organisers on the visibility of the new title sponsor proposed by FIS".
What is Club5
Club5 was founded in 1988. The five classic World Cup downhill races on the Alpine circuit – Kitzbühel, Wengen, Garmisch, Val Gardena and Val d'Isère – came together under a single name for joint marketing purposes. The aim was also to better convey the high quality of these events to the media. Over the years, other organisers have joined, and today the association has 26 members: Adelboden, Alta Badia, Åre, Bormio, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Courchevel, Crans-Montana, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Val Gardena, Jasna, Kitzbühel, Kranjska Gora (women), Kranjska Gora (men), Kronplatz, Kvitfjell, Levi, Madonna di Campiglio, Schladming, Sestriere, Soldeu, St. Anton, St. Moritz, Val di Fassa, Val d'Isère, Wengen and Zagreb.
