Val di Fassa World Cup showcased in Milan

October 28, 2026

January 2027 is set to be a truly special month for Val di Fassa and the San Pellegrino Ski Area. This was highlighted by Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi President Gianni Rasom and Funivie Buffaure Catinaccio Operations Director Ugo Fracasso during their speeches at an event held within the Milano Mountain Show programme, as part of the panel dedicated to the Dolomiti Superski World Cup competitions. Also attending the media event were Elisabeth and Mauro Vendruscolo from the San Pellegrino Ski Area and Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi General Manager Cristoforo Debertol.

On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January, with the preceding days dedicated to official training runs, the Women's Alpine Ski World Cup will return to La VolatA for the fourth time, featuring one Downhill and one Super-G. Last March, the course delivered great success for the Italian team, with three races and three Italian victories thanks to local athlete Laura Pirovano's double triumph and Elena Curtoni's win.

But that's not all. On Friday 22 and Saturday 23 January, for the third time, the Park Monzoni course will host a two-day Ski Cross World Cup event, featuring four races in total, two men's and two women's. The hope is that reigning Olympic champion Simone Deromedis, teammate Federico Tomasoni (silver medallist at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games), and Jole Galli from Livigno will repeat the remarkable results achieved during the previous two editions in Val di Fassa, when Italian athletes claimed three victories overall.

"The first piece of news to announce," explained Gianni Rasom, "is that ticket sales for both the standing area and the grandstand opened a few days ago. Tickets can be purchased online through the official race website, www.fassa.com. Significant changes have also been made to the finish area, which has been expanded and redesigned to offer spectators an even better experience. The course itself will feature softened jumps, making them less aggressive than last year, also considering that the races will take place in mid-winter, two months earlier than in 2026."

Work is also underway at Park Monzoni in preparation for the Ski Cross event. "The course," explained Ugo Fracasso, "has officially become part of the Piste Azzurre project, which identifies Val di Fassa as a training centre for the Italian national winter sports teams. As a result, the Italian Ski Cross team will use the venue for training throughout the year on the structures that will be installed as soon as possible. It will become a permanent course, benefiting from its location away from the main tourist flows. In addition, a junior course for ski clubs and regional committees is also planned."

The two World Cup events will not be the only ski competitions on the Val di Fassa calendar. On Saturday 19 December, the traditional Men's European Cup Slalom race will take place in Pozza di Fassa. Furthermore, starting on 11 January, and again in March, the SKILV Cup Val di Fassa, an international competition involving the Baltic States, will be held on the Aloch slope. Finally, in early April, the Italian National Championships in Downhill and Super-G for both men and women will take place on the La VolatA slope in the San Pellegrino Ski Area.
