The World Cup lights up Moena
The Women's Alpine Ski World Cup weekend (6-8 March) is more than a sporting event for Val di Fassa - it is a true celebration of skiing and mountain culture. On Saturday 7 March at 6.00 pm, the centre of Moena will host the traditional Opening Parade, a festive tribute to the World Cup races taking place on the La VolatA course in the San Pellegrino Ski Area. The Italian athletes competing in the two Downhill races (6 and 7 March) and the Super-G (8 March) will be the stars of the evening.
The parade will wind its way from Piaz de Ramon to Piaz de Sotegrava, where the participating groups will be officially presented to the public. The athletes will ride through the village in a horse-drawn carriage, accompanied by ski instructors from Moena and neighbouring resorts - Canazei, Campitello, Pozza and Vigo. Adding colour and atmosphere to the procession will be the U.S. Monti Pallidi, Ski Team and Fassa Active ski clubs, the young performers of Circensema, the traditional Scufons del Cogo, and the Soraga Folk Group. Representatives of local institutions and FISI will also take part, while the Moena Band provides a musical soundtrack throughout the parade. Spectators can also enjoy performances by stilt artists, bringing an extra touch of spectacle to the evening.
At 6.30 pm, the celebration will move to the official Downhill prize-giving ceremony, honouring the top three finishers of the 7 March race. Immediately afterwards, the Super-G bib draw will take place, setting the stage for Sunday’s decisive competition.
