FIS Inspection of the La VolatA

FIS Inspection of the La VolatA

July 30, 2026

A "Work in Progress" sign currently stands in the finish area of La VolatA in the San Pellegrino Ski Area, where the FIS Women's Alpine Ski World Cup speed events will be held for the fourth time on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January 2027.

The Organising Committee is putting the finishing touches to the expansion and redevelopment of its finish area, which was inspected today by FIS Women's Alpine Ski World Cup Race Director Peter Gerdol and his deputy Alberto Senigagliesi during the International Ski and Snowboard Federation's traditional summer inspection. The visit focused on the structural and terrain improvements introduced ahead of next winter's World Cup event. Joining the inspection were Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi President Gianni Rasom, San Pellegrino Ski Area President Mauro Vendruscolo, Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi General Manager Cristoforo Debertol, Race Director Mattia Giongo and Chief of Course Marco Costazza.

«Initially, the Val di Fassa races were not included in the World Cup calendar,» said Peter Gerdol. «Then a number of organisers withdrew, Trentino was given the opportunity to host the races and everything came together. From the FIS perspective, we are very pleased with this outcome because the Organising Committee has consistently demonstrated its professionalism over the years. It has continued to evolve, learning from experience and constantly raising its standards. That progress resulted in an outstanding event last spring.»
Asked whether he had any specific requests for the local organising team, Gerdol replied: «The most significant change is the redesigned and expanded finish area, which will make much better use of the available space. On the course itself, athletes will encounter less pronounced jumps. These changes take into account the different snow and temperature conditions compared with last year, as well as the different light conditions, which also require adjustments to the course setting.»

Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi President Gianni Rasom also expressed his satisfaction: «We had an in-depth discussion about safety, and it was also a welcome opportunity to thank FIS for the trust and confidence they continue to place in us. We are already working closely with all our local partners, from the Tourist Board and Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi to the local administrations, provincial authorities, ski clubs and ski schools. Although the races take place immediately after the Christmas holidays, we are confident that the course will be in perfect condition.»

San Pellegrino Ski Area President Mauro Vendruscolo added: «We are completing the work in the finish area to create more space for hospitality and spectators. At the same time, the snowmaking system is being upgraded to improve its performance, an essential investment given that the races take place at the very beginning of the winter season.»

Next winter, Val di Fassa will also host the third edition of the FIS Ski Cross World Cup. The races are scheduled for 22 and 23 January 2027 on the Park Monzoni course, which is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The finish area, in particular, is being extended and redesigned compared with previous editions.
